**Headline:** Major Drug Bust on I-57: Police Seize 40 Pounds of Cocaine During Early Morning Traffic Stop

**CHEBANSE, IL –** A routine traffic stop in the early hours of Saturday morning led to a significant drug seizure and the arrest of a 63-year-old truck driver. Illinois State Police discovered approximately 40 pounds of cocaine, resulting in felony charges for the driver, Dwayne B. Cook. The incident occurred on August 16, 2025, along I-57 in Kankakee County.

At approximately 3:24 AM, an Illinois State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop on a truck traveling northbound on I-57 near milepost 302 in Chebanse. During the stop, the officer uncovered a substantial quantity of illegal narcotics concealed within the vehicle.

According to authorities, the search yielded 15 kilo bundles, which contained a total of 40 pounds of cocaine. The Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group was also involved in the operation.

The driver of the vehicle, Dwayne B. Cook, was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been charged with Controlled Substance Trafficking and Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance. Both offenses are classified as Class X felonies in Illinois, which carry severe penalties. If convicted on both charges, Cook could face a potential prison sentence ranging from 12 to 60 years.

Following his arrest, Cook was transported to the Jerome Cobs Detention Center, where he is currently being held. The investigation remains ongoing.
