A Teller County food drive held last Friday successfully generated $45,000 in funds to support local food banks. The collection event, staged outside the Walmart in Woodland Park, is expected to provide food for approximately 3,000 people in the community.
Two significant contributions accounted for the total amount raised. The Teller County Saddle Club provided $30,000, and an additional $15,000 was donated by the Community Cares Bible College.
The initiative saw participation from Teller County Commissioners, first responders, and various local leaders. Commissioner Eric Stone conveyed that he had expected a positive and generous response from residents for the drive.
In addition to the monetary donations, the event prompted a substantial increase in food purchases, with sales rising by nearly 90 percent. The collected resources will be distributed to assist families facing need throughout the county. Organizers have announced that another food drive is already being planned.
