A Brooklyn, New York woman is celebrating a life-changing windfall after claiming a $1 million top prize from an Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket, according to lottery officials. The winning ticket, part of a $20 scratch-off game, was purchased at Love’s Travel Stop #555 located at 1910 E. 5th Street in Delphos, Ohio.
The woman opted to receive her winnings as a lump-sum cash payout rather than in annual installments. By choosing the cash option, she was awarded $500,000 before taxes. After the mandatory 27.125% tax withholding, her final amount totaled $364,375.
The Ohio Lottery noted that this particular scratch-off game still has two top prizes remaining, giving other hopeful players a chance at a similar outcome. Scratch-off games of this type typically offer multiple top-tier prizes, and winners are given the choice between a lump-sum payment or an annuity.
The win was officially recorded as of October 10. While the winner’s identity has not been disclosed, the Ohio Lottery confirmed the validity of the claim.
The Love’s Travel Stop in Delphos, where the ticket was sold, may also be eligible for a sales bonus from the lottery for selling a winning ticket of this magnitude.
As of now, the Ohio Lottery encourages players to check their tickets and reminds the public that two $1 million prizes remain unclaimed in this scratch-off series.
