A community-wide effort in Woodland Park on Friday resulted in the collection of $45,000 and essential goods to support local food banks. The Teller County Cares Food Initiative organized the donation event outside the local Walmart to aid families facing hardship.

The drive received significant financial backing from two local organizations. A contribution of $30,000 was made by the Teller County Saddle Club, and an additional $15,000 was provided by the Community Cares Bible College. Organizers estimate the combined monetary and food donations will be sufficient to help feed approximately 3,000 people.

Throughout the day, community members donated food, coats, and various baby supplies. The event also spurred a noticeable increase in business at the host location, with food sales rising by nearly 90 percent.

Local leaders, first responders, and Teller County Commissioners were present to support the collection. Commissioner Eric Stone conveyed that he had been confident in the community’s willingness to contribute to the initiative.

The collected items are set to be distributed at the Little Chapel Food Pantry. Organizers have also announced plans for a future food drive to be held at City Market.
