Two men are facing serious criminal charges following their arrests in connection with an alleged attempt to defraud a financial institution using stolen identities. The arrests occurred in Buffalo on December 9 and 10, according to information released by the North Tonawanda Police Department.
Anthony Tillmon, 41, and Gregory Charles, 40, were both taken into custody after authorities responded to a report of a suspicious loan application. Police say the loan, processed by the financial institution, appeared to be based on fraudulent information tied to identity theft.
Following the investigation, officers arrested Tillmon and Charles on multiple felony charges, including Grand Larceny and Identity Theft. Authorities believe the suspects were attempting to secure a loan under someone else’s name, a tactic commonly associated with financial fraud schemes.
Tillmon and Charles were arraigned in North Tonawanda City Court. Tillmon was remanded to jail following his court appearance, while Charles was released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings.
The North Tonawanda Police Department continues to handle the case. No further details about the investigation or the extent of the attempted fraud have been disclosed.
