A 25-year-old man was hospitalized on November 4 after being shot by a police detective in Pueblo West, concluding a vehicle pursuit that crossed two counties.

The incident began in Monument at approximately 3:30 p.m. following the alleged theft of a 2025 Chevy Silverado. Law enforcement, with assistance from the Colorado State Patrol, tracked the vehicle as it moved south into Pueblo County.

The chase ended near Exit 108 off Interstate 25. Authorities reported that the suspect, Michael R. Trujillo, discharged a firearm at officers. A detective with the Monument Police Department then fired their weapon, striking Trujillo.

No officers were injured in the confrontation. A weapon was later found inside the vehicle Trujillo was driving. Personnel from the Pueblo West Fire Department rendered medical aid at the scene before the suspect was taken to a hospital.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is now leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. A public information officer for the department stated that the inquiry remains ongoing and a determination on potential charges has not yet been made.
