A 25-year-old man was hospitalized on November 4 after being shot by a police detective in Pueblo West, concluding a vehicle pursuit that began in a different county. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office is now conducting an investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
The incident started with the reported theft of a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado in the town of Monument. Law enforcement located the stolen vehicle, leading to a chase that involved the Colorado State Patrol and proceeded south along Interstate 25.
The pursuit ended in Pueblo West, where authorities say the suspect, identified as Michael R. Trujillo, fired a weapon at officers. A detective with the Monument Police Department fired back, wounding Trujillo.
No law enforcement personnel were harmed during the exchange. Medical assistance was provided at the scene by the Pueblo West Fire Department before Trujillo was transported to a hospital in Colorado Springs for treatment. Investigators later recovered a weapon from the vehicle Trujillo was driving.
According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the inquiry, the investigation remains active. A public information officer for the department stated that a determination on potential charges has not yet been made.
