In a celebratory gathering at 10 a.m. on October 9, the Indianapolis International Airport’s Civic Plaza transformed into a venue of patriotic pride and personal milestones as 95 individuals from 42 different countries officially became U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony.

Hosted by the Indianapolis Airport Authority and held in partnership with The International Center, the event marked the second consecutive year the airport has served as the setting for this significant occasion. The ceremony, part of an annual initiative to welcome new Americans, featured traditional elements such as the Oath of Citizenship, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a presentation of the American flag.

Mario Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, addressed the crowd, emphasizing the significance of the moment. He stated that the airport was honored to serve as a welcoming gateway for those who have worked hard to become U.S. citizens, reinforcing the airport’s role as more than just a transportation hub—it’s a place where new chapters begin.

Among the 95 new citizens was Polina Osherov, who reflected on her experience, saying that achieving citizenship made her feel truly at home. The group represented a wide array of backgrounds and journeys, with the oldest new citizen, Kanakasabai Balasubramanian, standing out as a testament to the enduring pursuit of the American dream.

The naturalization ceremony served not only as a personal milestone for the new citizens but also as a symbol of the region’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. With flags waving and hands over hearts, the new Americans pledged allegiance to their adopted country, concluding the ceremony with a shared sense of unity and purpose.

The event concluded with warm applause and a shared sense of accomplishment, as the Indianapolis community officially welcomed its newest citizens. The airport authority indicated its intention to continue hosting the annual event in the future.
