Actor Darius McCrary, known for his role on the 1990s sitcom “Family Matters,” was arrested Sunday near the U.S.-Mexico border by U.S. Border Patrol agents on an outstanding out-of-state felony warrant connected to unpaid child support. The arrest occurred in California, and McCrary was subsequently booked into a San Diego jail.
According to officials, the warrant originated from Michigan and stemmed from McCrary’s failure to appear in court regarding a child support case. Ann Barlow, a representative for the actor, confirmed that the missed court date was the basis for the arrest. The warrant was categorized as a fugitive arrest, reflecting the seriousness of the charge across state lines.
The actor’s legal troubles related to child support are not new. Records indicate that he was previously arrested in both 2015 and 2023 under similar circumstances. McCrary was ordered to pay $1,366 per month in child support following his divorce from ex-wife Tammy Brawner, which was finalized in 2019.
Despite the nature of the current charge, individuals close to Brawner have clarified that this latest arrest is unrelated to the child support agreement stemming from their divorce. The specific case tied to the Michigan warrant has not been publicly detailed beyond the missed appearance.
As of now, McCrary remains in custody in San Diego. Further proceedings will determine whether he will be extradited to Michigan to face the outstanding charges. Authorities have not released additional information about the next steps in the case.
