**Headline: Houston City Officials Order Full Inspection of Cullen Park Apartments Amid Reports of Unsafe Living Conditions**
**HOUSTON, TX** – City leaders have ordered a full and immediate inspection of all 240 units at the Cullen Park Apartments this week, following numerous reports from residents about hazardous living conditions, including pervasive mold and broken air conditioning. The action, which took place on Wednesday, was prompted by growing health concerns and what some residents describe as years of neglected repair requests.
The city’s intervention, spurred by media reports from KPRC 2, brought officials directly to the complex to assess the situation. Councilmember Carolyn Evans-Shabazz was on-site and expressed a firm commitment to ensuring the safety of the families living there. She made it clear that immediate action would be taken if any units were deemed uninhabitable.
“I want to say if they get to an apartment where it is not safe for someone to live there, I want them moved,” Councilmember Evans-Shabazz stated.
For the families at Cullen Park, the official inspection marks a potential turning point after a long period of frustration. One resident described the long-standing issues, noting, “It’s been years of asking for repairs and nothing changes. We feel like nobody cared until now.”
Another official on the scene acknowledged the severity and duration of the problems, stating, “These people have lived in these conditions for months, maybe years.”
In a direct address to property owners across the city, Councilmember Evans-Shabazz issued a stern warning against negligence. “No slumlord is safe,” she declared. “Do not think that because we’re dealing with this company today that we’re not looking to deal with you tomorrow. I’m not going to sugarcoat it. If you have a responsibility to keep your environment clean, that is what you are expected to do.”
Reinforcing her dedication to her constituents, she added, “I love people and I’m not just here to sit in a seat and take pictures. I’m here to do the work.”
As city inspectors continue their work, a contingency plan is in place. Officials have confirmed that any families living in apartments found to be too dangerous will be relocated to hotels to ensure their immediate safety. The full inspection of the 240-unit complex is ongoing.
