**Governor Abbott Unveils Record $146 Billion Plan to Combat Texas Traffic, Houston a Key Focus**

**SPRING, TX** – In a major move to address the state’s growing traffic woes, Governor Greg Abbott, alongside the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), has unveiled a historic $146 billion transportation plan aimed at improving road infrastructure and alleviating severe congestion across Texas, with a significant focus on the Houston area. The comprehensive 10-year plan is set to be adopted in 2026.

The initiative was announced as a direct response to the economic and personal costs of traffic delays, which have become a daily reality for millions of Texans. According to state data, Texans lost over 505 million hours to traffic delays in 2023 alone, costing the state’s economy more than $13 billion.

“We must strengthen our roadways and improve congestion and safety to keep our economy booming and keep Texans moving,” Governor Abbott stated, emphasizing the plan’s dual goals of supporting economic growth and improving the quality of life for residents.

The massive funding is broken down into several key areas. The plan allocates $101.6 billion specifically for roadway interventions designed to ease gridlock and enhance safety. An additional $45 billion is earmarked for crucial maintenance and further developments to ensure the long-term viability of the state’s transportation network. A significant portion of the funding, nearly $2 billion, will bolster the Texas Clear Lanes initiative, which targets the most congested corridors in the state’s major metropolitan areas.

TxDOT officials, including Executive Director Marc Williams and Acting Texas Transportation Commissioner Alvin New, highlighted the plan’s forward-looking approach. “This plan will enhance safety, improve mobility, and support our growth over the next 10 years,” one official noted, underscoring the commitment to creating “lasting benefits for all Texans.”

As the plan moves toward its formal adoption in 2026, state and local authorities will continue to finalize project details. For residents of Spring and the greater Houston region, this long-term investment represents a significant effort to address the ever-increasing time spent on the road and to build a more efficient transportation system for the future.
