For the past year, sanitation workers in a Northeast Colorado Springs neighborhood have had a special stop on their weekly route. Every Friday, resident Ariahna Whiteside provides food and drinks to the Apex Waste Solutions crew that services her area.
The weekly tradition began after Whiteside’s family moved and had an excess of trash for collection. She wanted to express her gratitude for the workers and decided to turn the gesture into a regular occurrence. Whiteside also indicated that the practice is a way to teach her daughters about showing appreciation.
Keoni Kaneshiro, a sanitation driver for Apex Waste Solutions, said he is grateful for the kindness and anticipates visiting Whiteside’s home each week.
Whiteside has conveyed that she enjoys cooking and finds fulfillment in giving back to her community. She also expressed a belief in the importance of generosity, regardless of one’s own financial circumstances. The weekly offerings have continued for approximately one year.
