### **Colorado Springs Stretch of I-25 Among Deadliest Highways in State, New Data Reveals**

**COLORADO SPRINGS, CO** – A recent analysis of federal crash data has identified a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 25 through Colorado Springs as one of the most dangerous highway segments in the state, recording 19 fatal crashes over a five-year period. The report, which examined data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2019 to 2023, highlights several high-risk corridors along Colorado’s major interstates.

The study pinpointed the section of I-25 running from Mesa Ridge Parkway to West Bijou Street as a significant hotspot for deadly accidents. Another area of concern within the city is the stretch of I-25 near Briargate Parkway, which was the site of 10 fatalities during the same period.

Researchers attribute the elevated risk on these urban highway sections to a combination of factors, including high population density, a mix of local and long-distance traffic, and poor road conditions.

While the Colorado Springs figures are alarming, the analysis revealed that the single deadliest 10-mile stretch in the state is on Interstate 70 in northeast Denver, which saw 23 fatal crashes between 2019 and 2023.

Other high-fatality corridors identified in the report include:

* **I-25 in central Denver:** 20 fatal crashes
* **I-225 in Aurora:** 19 fatal crashes
* **I-70 from Denver West Marriott Boulevard to Tejon Street:** 17 fatal crashes
* **I-25 through Thornton:** 16 fatal crashes
* **I-25 in Pueblo between West Pueblo Boulevard and Quartz Road:** 16 fatal crashes
* **I-25 from East Lincoln Avenue to East Yale Avenue:** 14 fatal crashes
* **I-25 near Castle Rock:** 11 fatal crashes

A particularly concerning finding from the data was the danger posed to individuals outside of vehicles. Across all the top deadliest highway stretches identified, nearly 22% of the fatal crashes involved pedestrians, underscoring the risks present along these high-speed urban thoroughfares.
