**PUEBLO WEST, CO** – A 25-year-old man was shot by a Monument police detective on November 4 following a multi-agency vehicle pursuit that began with an alleged auto theft in Monument and ended in a field in Pueblo West. The suspect, identified as Michael R. Trujillo, allegedly fired multiple shots at officers before he was wounded.
The incident began around 3:30 p.m. with the reported theft of a 2025 Chevy Silverado truck in Monument. Law enforcement officers, including a Monument police detective, initiated a pursuit that crossed from El Paso County into Pueblo County.
The chase involved the Colorado State Patrol and the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, who tracked the stolen vehicle south. The pursuit came to an end near Exit 108 in Pueblo West. According to an official statement, “State Troopers and Pueblo County Sheriff’s deputies followed the truck as it drove into a field northeast of the intersection of N. Purcell Boulevard and Fairbanks Drive, when the truck stalled.”
Following the stall, Trujillo allegedly fired multiple shots at the assembled officers. A detective from the Monument Police Department returned fire, striking Trujillo.
The Pueblo West Fire Department was also involved in the response to the incident. No further details on the suspect’s condition or the events leading to the initial auto theft have been released at this time.
