The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday in an area east of West Franklin Street. According to reports, 28 loaded coal cars from the CSX train derailed.

The derailment has caused a major blockage on the tracks, directly impacting Amtrak passenger services that utilize the corridor. As a result of the disruption, Amtrak services have been canceled nationwide.
