**RALEIGH, N.C.** – A Raleigh resident’s luck turned into a long-term windfall after he won a $1 million jackpot in a North Carolina Education Lottery second-chance drawing held on August 6. Clinton Graves claimed his grand prize at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh on Tuesday, August 15.
Graves beat incredible odds to secure the top prize, with his entry being selected from a pool of 979,465 total entries in the drawing.
Upon claiming his prize, Graves was presented with two options: a lump-sum payment of $600,000 or an annuity of $50,000 a year for 20 years, totaling the full $1 million. He opted for the 20-year annuity. After required state and federal tax withholdings, Graves received his first payment of $35,878.
The second-chance drawing also awarded significant prizes to other participants across the state. In addition to Graves’s grand prize, the lottery awarded three prizes of $100,000, ten prizes of $25,000, and fifty prizes of $500.
